South Orange
WHY LIVE IN SOUTH ORANGE?
If you watch old movies on television on AMC or TCM, movies from the 30’s or 40’s, films starring Mickey Rooney as Andy Hardy or classics like It Happened One Night or The Best Years of Our Lives, there is always a constant feature in the background: the perfect town. It is a clean and sunny village that has a river running through it, a tranquil place that is both prosperous and tidy, with a tree-lined main street filled with friendly merchants, a courthouse square dotted with gaslights, and wooded neighborhoods with fine houses on ample lawns, all within a couple of minutes of the post office, the library, and the stores. You might think that this ideal town is an American fiction, a dream or a memory from days gone by, something that exists only in Leave it to Beaver or Mister Smith goes to Washington, but how surprised you would be if you entered the Township of South Orange.
Okay, maybe Jimmy Stewart isn’t the mayor and you don’t see Mickey Rooney riding his bike, slinging newspapers on to front lawns or delivering groceries, or Fred Mac Murray the high school principal, but it is certainly a village devoted to small-town ideals, without commercial squalor from one end to the other. And yes, South Orange has a river running through it and more operating gaslights than any other community in the United States. It also has a Division 1 university, Seton Hall, sixty-two acres of parkland, five baseball diamonds, 15 lighted tennis courts, a soccer field, duck pond, playgrounds, Baird Community Center and a fine outdoor pool complex and a favorite sledding hill. Plus a local school system that is considered one of the best in the state. Homes currently for sale in South Orange, New Jersey.

Here’s the latest version of This Month in Real Estate. It covers interest rates and affordability. The numbers are very interesting.
The one thing that bothered me about this segment, however, was that it felt a little bit like a sales pitch. I would hope that the next edition focuses strictly on the numbers.
Enjoy.
