Hey. Easy there dude. I’m not talking about you. I’m talking about Wild
Turkeys. Here’s a photo I took through the windshield of my car this afternoon.

Yeah. I know the photo is a little grainy. Kinda looks like one of those Sasquatch photos from back in the seventies. In actuality, it’s a mother Turkey and three babies crossing Hobart Avenue to get to their Yukon.

Gotta get the Bugaboo out of the trunk.

It has just been announced by Mayor Glatt that the Springfield Avenue Bridge will open on June 27. A ceremony will be held on July 1 at 6:00 PM.

I’m going to miss the tar fumes, dust and jack hammers.

So what are you doing in Summit, New Jersey on the 4th of July?

Celebrate July 4th in Summit with a full days of activities at Memorial Field. The morning events include rides, games, music, a parade and the infamous annual softball game between the Summit Police, Fire, and First Aid Squad. The LENOX UNDERGROUND will be performing at this year’s concert, a band comprised mainly of Summit residents who donate their proceeds to youth musical education foundations. And of course the evening will end with a spectacular fireworks display.

As you may have noticed, this blog is devoted to all things New Jersey. Of particular interest are stories about unique people, places and things.

Every day as I drive circles around the municipal public parking lot in Summit searching for a parking spot, I see a man sitting in a tiny room flanked by bottles of red and white wine. A small sign is nailed to his door reading…..

This unique wine store nestled in the rear of 458 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, has been in business for over thirty four years. It wasn’t until 1990, however. that it relocated to this quirky new location.

So what’s the deal?

Ok. It’s simple. Thirty wines. Fifteen Red & Fifteen White. All tasted by a seasoned wine vet. All $10 tax included.

So why not take a break from the eight hundred cases of Charles Shaw you have sitting in your cellar, and give this place a try.

Forget about Whole Foods and Kings when it comes to buying cheese. Try the Summit Cheese Shop . Located right across the street from the Summit Train Station, this Summit institution has the most amazing selection of European and American cheeses.

Unlike many chain stores, The Cheese Shop’s owners Paul and Pamela Pappas have a wealth of knowledge regarding cheese. It seems that they know the ins and outs of every cheese maker on the planet. If you’re thinking of having a party, you’ll definitely want to turn to the Summit Cheese Shop for suggestions of specific cheeses to compliment a certain wine. They’ll know the answer.
